One Month More

One more month until I'm no longer in my twenties. Woo-hoo! I've always maintained that I'm looking forward to my 30s, and I still am. I'm leaving them in better shape than when I started. I'm thinner, I actually exercise now, I've gone through two long term relationships and am in two others now. Life, despite my kvetching, is pretty good.

Which doesn't mean I don't feel angsty and all that. I mean, what would be the change of decade without a little angst, eh? I'm certainly not where I thought I would be, in debt up to my eyeballs and in a boring government job. LOL! Not exactly where I pictured life when I started school, but who ever ends up exactly where they think they're going?

Hung out in front of the building getting more signatures this evening. Tomorrow night is it for me, as the deadline to file is Friday 5 p.m. I'm going to try and get to work early so I can leave early - the 6:15 to 6:45 crowd at the door coming home is getting tired of seeing me. ;-) There'll be more folks earlier, too, I think. I've met the minimum signature requirement, this is just insurance to make sure I have enough to meet any potential challenges. Hopefully I'm still unopposed (because who doesn't want to run unopposed?), but we'll see next week when everything is said and done. *fingers crossed*

So, almost 30. 30 more days of my 20s. How amusing.

Commuting

02/9/11 8:08 a.m.

Going to try and check signatures this morning on my opponent's sheets. The hope is, of course, to get him removed for not meeting the minimum requirements. I'll not hold my breath, though.

So, I'm all registered and challenge-proof and all that. A political candidate, albeit in a non-partisan race. It does irritate that of the seats in my ANC mine is the only one with competition, especially when three of the other five seats don't even have anyone running! Oh, well, just means I have to work for it, and I'm definitely in this to win.

...

Good thing I left early, though it does not appear I'll get to BOEE this morning. We diverted to avoid the White House (my normal bus commute takes me within two blocks of it), and K St is taking forever. Why MPD isn't out directing traffic is beyond me. As a result, traffic is backing up, blocking intersections and causing an even longer delay than should occur. Definitely a Rule #2 kinda thing.

...

The day was a wash, as far the signatures go. I'm just going to plan on checking them on Friday when I'm off from work.

Work was relatively normal, just getting through the usual junk. The only bow to the day's activities were a relative media blackout and going back to look at LiveJournal entries from last year this time. It's funny, the same things I was annoyed at then apply now: closing of streets and fucked up commutes because of the same. At least there were no MPs in the streets of DC this time around.

Foiled again

"Do you want me to fuck you?"

I whispered this to him as we writhed around on my bed, tossing back and forth over the sheets in the dark, careful not to wake the other guests out in the living room.

"No, man," he whispered back.

Not a problem. I continued to explore his body with hands and lips, marvelling at the definition and work he has put into it. Hands alternating between gentle and rough over all parts of him, tugging, teasing, watching him light up when I'd rush his nipples, or tug on his balls.

Eventually, knowing how fatigued we both were, I rolled over to grab a handful of lube from the pump bottle beside the bed, came back to lay a now-lubricated hand on his crotch, massaging the fullness of his cock.

Only to hear a gentle snoring coming from his lips.

Preparations

Vacuumed, cleaned the bathroom, changed the cat litter, straightened the junk, peeled and diced the yams. Almost ready for guests tomorrow evening. This should be a hoot, I'm looking forward to having the crowd here, both for the soup and for the Buffy premier.

Don't know if I mentioned it here, but I'm having "Soup Night" tomorrow. I sent out invitations to a ton of friends saying essentially that they were invited over for soup. They can bring some bread, some wine, just themselves, a date, etc., it's all okay. We're having soup, and I'm looking forward to having the folks over. That it's the Buffy premier is a plus, but not necessary. :-) The companionship and the shared meal are the point.

And, of course, if it goes well I'll be repeating it throughout the fall/winter/spring season (summer's a tad warm for soup night, ya know, unless we're talking an endless supply of cold soups *grin*). I've already got the next soup picked out, a curried butternut soup. Yum! Tomorrow's is my African Bean Soup, a lovely blend of veggies, chickpeas, peanut butter and some light curry. Is very, very good.

So, am psyched, have the place as cleaned as it's going to be, and will look forward to guests!

Post-Mortem

So, Soup Night went well.

The first one, of course, led to several findings to apply to future Soup Nights:

  • 6:30 is far too early, even functioning on Queer Time. 7 or 7:15 will work better.
  • Chinet bowls have a time limit built in, thereby encouraging quick soup consumption. LOL! Will get plastic bowls for the next time. *grin*
  • The crowd was a good relaxed one, the same invites will be sent out next time.
  • When lacking entertainment, throw a faux mouse to the cats.
  • Having a TV show as part of the entertainment was nice, but perhaps should not be the "second focus" of the gathering.
  • The soup went over really well, so now the pressure is on for the next batch (though I'm still leaning toward the curried butternut soup in this month's Cooking Light magazine).

Enjoyed it thoroughly, it was so much fun to have a houseful of people over to eat. Makes me wish for a larger place with formal entertaining space. Well, sort of wish - I don't want to have to clean it all. LOL!

The good thing about hosting is that now I have a fridge full of beer, some wine in the rack, and several freezer bags full of soup for later. :-)

I think I may have picked up a cold last week in South Carolina, though. Everyone I saw while down there seemed to have a cold, and I thought I'd escaped it, but I'm feeling the stuff creeping up into my sinuses. Want to avoid drugs, but we'll see how that works.

End of the Year

So, the end of the fiscal year for the Feds is upon us, and yet another year where Congress can't get off its collective ass and get us a budget. Oh well!

The audit stuff at work went okay, 'nuff said there. I worked over the weekend, both days, which I really can't complain (much) about considering I get to go home on time most days, and I've only had to work weekends three or four times in the four years I've been there. Not a bad record, that.

The head cold I've been fighting for the past week seems to be leaving, albeit slowly. Am hoping I'll sleep better this evening than I have been - cold medication can really screw with your sleep patterns, and interfere with the deep, restful sleep we all need. At least it messes with mine, which is never fun. I was actually late to work today (though I stayed late as well) because I didn't sleep well last night.

Three more days until thirty. :-) Doesn't really feel any different, though will be fun remembering to say "thirty" when asked my age. Ordered the cakes for the party, am psyched about getting vegan cakes for my b'day party this year (cakes I can eat that won't make me sick! Hooray!). One chocolate cake with raspberry filling, and one strawberry shortcake-style cake. Yum!

Spent a little more than three hours doing laundry this evening (was crowded, so I kept using the same two washers & the same two dryers to do all SIX loads). Had been ages since I'd done any, so there was tons to wash. Will be nice to have a choice of socks and underwear tomorrow. :-p They got rid of the quarter-fed machines and replaced them with these card-reading ones, so the effort of getting quarters today was wasted (need any laundry quarters? anyone? anyone?). The card is nice, you can tell if the machine is locked out or not by whether it takes the card, but was annoyed at having to purchase a card for $2, when the signs in the laundry room said they were going to distribute the cards to all residents. :-/ Oh well, life happens, and I have clean sheets, so I'm happy.

Will try to run tomorrow after the biking this weekend (and waking up late this morning!), so is time for sleep.
